Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil Ibni Sultan Ibrahim was diagnosed with liver cancer in August 2014 after an operation at Gleneagles Hospital and Medical Centre.
Almarhum was treated there. A month later, he was transferred to Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Bahru for further treatment.
In November 2014, Almarhum Tunku Abdul Jalil underwent a liver transplant.
Even during his recovery, Almarhum continued to visit cancer patients at the Oncology Centre and Cancer Ward in Hospital Sultan Ismail, Johor Bahru.
They shared stories, experiences and opinions about life as a cancer survivor. He was very supportive and encouraged the patients to stay strong to continue fighting disease.
It was this desire to help and ease the burdern of the other patients which inspired the formation of TLJCF He realized that the high cost of medicine and treatment of cancer patients is a very heavy burden for cancer patients and their families. He shared his concerns and plans with his father,DYMM Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, the Sultan of Johore who agreed with the idea. It is thus with the full support the entire royal family , the Tunku Laksamana Johor Cancer Foundation was established under the supervision of the Johor State Government and incorporated on June 25, 2015
